Jennifer Thomas emailed her friends and co-workers at the Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce this week to let them know that, with a heavy heart, she plans to leave her position as Executive Director on March 2.
“Due to personal reasons, it became necessary for me to obtain a position that afforded me insurance for my family,” Thomas explained.
She has been in her position since 2010. Her last day on the job is March 2, the date for this year’s Home and Commerce Show.
“I plan to stay involved in the Waterford community as time permits by volunteering at event functions,” Thomas said in her email.
The Waterford Chamber is now searching for a new Executor Director. A job description is posted online at www.waterford-wi.org; resumes will be accepted until a suitable replacement is found.
Meghan Giese, the Chamber president, said Thomas has done a wonderful job in her position, and will certainly be missed.
“I wish her all the best,” Giese said.
Some Chamber accomplishments seen in 2012 during Thomas’s tenure include:
• the successful application of a JEM grant for the Waterford Balloon Festival, generating a $1.2 million economic impact to the area, according to the Wisconsin Department of Tourism, and generating more than $15,000 toward the missions of local non-profit groups.
• multiple educational and networking opportunities integrated by the Chamber for local businesses to promote themselves. These events include the Business Builder Conference, Multi-Chamber Networking Event, the annual Waterford Home and Commerce Show;
• monthly power lunch/breakfasts and Business After 5 functions, as well as numerous educational events, workshops and seminars for businesses to build and expand.; and
• continued success of the popular summer River Rhythms outdoor music concerts.
The Chamber job listing posted online indicates the preferred candidate will possess a two-year degree or strong business experience and/or at least five to seven years of relevant business, event planning, public policy or community work experience.
Proficient computer skills are needed, as well as outstanding written and verbal communication with the ability to effectively manage multiple projects, initiatives and objectives.
Resumes should be emailed to Erica Krzyszkowski at firstname.lastname@example.org.
