Charles A. ‘Chuck’ Bullis, 85, Union Grove, died Jan. 8, 2013, at his residence. He was born Feb. 25, 1927, to the late Allen and Mabel (Fohr) in Racine.
He postponed his schooling to join the U.S. Army and serve his country in May of 1945, during the World War II. After his discharge from the Army, he returned to school and graduated from Union Grove High School in 1947.
On June 11, 1970, he married the love of his life, Jeanette Demuth. Following marriage they resided in Union Grove.
He was on the Racine County Sheriff’s Department for 30 years as a deputy, from 1952 through 1982, being promoted to Sergeant in 1965. He worked security for the Racine Country Club from 1972 to 1975, and served as the Village of Union Grove’s first marshal. He was a past president of the Sheriffs Association and was very involved with the Junior Deputy Sheriff Program. Following retirement he served as a bailiff for Racine County Circuit Court, and as the Village of Union Grove Municipal Judge. He also, served on the board of the Union Grove Memorial Association (Union Grove Cemetery) and was a member of the Masonic Lodge receiving his 32nd Degree Scottish Rite.
In his spare time he enjoyed card tricks and magic tricks, tatting, cross stitch, knitting hats, working on model airplanes, his coin and stamp collection and the challenge of the Rubik’s cube. He also enjoyed cooking, baking, golfing, and Monday night card games with his retired friends. He will be forever loved and remembered by his family and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife of 42 years; special stepsons, Rick Jarvis, Randy Jarvis and Ron (Laura) Jarvis, all Union Grove, step grandchildren, Jackie Jarvis, Oshkosh, K.C. (fiancée Kelsey), and Katie Jarvis, Union Grove; step-great-granddaughter, Kyleigh; sister, Joyce Kania, Franklin; his daughters, Cheryl Hipke, Seattle, Wash., Caryl (James) Townsend, Corona, Calif., Caren (George) Schultz, Elkhart Lake, Dawn (Todd) Thoune, Menominee, Mich.; 11 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was further preceded in death by his daughter, Claire Edmond; brother, Wayne; sister, Mary Jane Krebs; and grandson, George Schultz Jr.
Funeral services were Jan. 14, at Polnasek–Daniels Funeral Home, Union Grove. The Rev. James Keuch officiated. Burial with full Military Honors was in Southeastern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove Polnasek-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Union Grove, served the family.
The family has suggested memorials be made to The Union Grove-Yorkville Fire & Rescue or the Hospice Alliance of Kenosha.
